First up is a fairly quick ohmu illustration (this creature from Nausicaa–a cool animated film I saw yesterday). Also a study after Phil Hale that I stopped working on hence the lack of faces and hands (I shouldn’t be ignoring my weaknesses I know).
EDIT: Adding in a paintover I did today as well, explaining some things on skin tones.

This year I will be focusing a lot more on traditional drawing. It’s tough to pump out 25 pages each week, but I am sure it will pay off.
This week I used a fineliner pen a lot (and didn’t use any pencil underneath). Drawing like that is really tough because you have only one chance to get a line right, and you can’t hesitate at all or do sketchy lines because it simply doesn’t work. You must also focus a lot on proportion and how everything in the picture relates to everything else or else it will look weird. Lastly it forces you to use your whole arm in the drawing process rather than your wrist/hand. A very good exercise, but as I said very tough.
Anyhow, below is a mix of stuff from imagination, life, copies of Bridgman, Moebius and Frazetta.

So I started doing these screencaps because there were two others on conceptart.org doing them daily and I decided to join them. Then we thought we’d start a group that anyone can join. There are now 20 members a few days in, and I think there won’t be anymore accepted because it is getting too chaotic. Anyways, I was surprised to see the reception for these. People seem to think they are a great idea.
Here are mine from the past few days. I am now posting them with the originals so that it is easier to compare how well I am doing. Each took 1 hour.
