Don Draper

September 28, 2010

Little photostudy for tonight of Don Draper from Mad Men (just started watching the series–pretty good so far).

LTS Round 2 Entry

September 27, 2010

Calling this one finished now.  Done for the Last Teen Standing competition over at  Fairly happy with it, but it looks quite different on different screens I notice, so not sure how close it will appear to what I actually wanted.  Anyways, despite many difficulties (damn you colour!) I tried really hard to bring this up to the highest level I am capable of…I really want to go through to the next round.  The judges so far appear to be Rahll and Bumskee (yay for Bumskee!), and I am hoping they will like my stuff.  Pretty excited that I have professionals looking at my stuff against other people, and I’m curious to see how it’ll hold up.  Click for a bigger pic.

Little Update

September 24, 2010

So here is an oil plein air painting from last week that I only photographed now due to it drying now.  And some quick sketches done at the National Gallery for a school assignment.

LTS Round 2

September 20, 2010

So I made it to the second round in the Last Teen Standing over at  The topics for the next round are Savage, God/Goddess, and Future Meets Prehistoric.  I am probably going with the latter…here is the initial sketch thing.  I’ll probably do a fair number of changes throughout this piece, but I’m liking the concept I’ve got here and am pretty excited to flesh it out a bit.  Oh, and there are now scholarships at The Art Department ( being offered as prizes for winning/doing awesome art in the final rounds, so I really need to step my game up.

A Pirate and some SP’s

September 20, 2010

September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day, so in honour of it I drew a generic pirate.  It is admittedly really bad (really really bad), but was kinda fun and quick.  Also, nine self portraits.  Ugh, they were a pain at the end to finish up the page, and some are terrible (notably the first and last), but on the whole I like the page.  So yup.

Lifedrawings and Hands

September 19, 2010

Got around to photographing the lifedrawings from the last two sessions.  Also did a few studies today of my hand (they are really bad, so I will probably do a ton more).

Some Studies and an Oni

September 17, 2010

The first one here is a study after Nicolas Uribe.  I then tried out this exercise where you do a painting from imagination afterwards using the same palette.  It’s supposed to help you retain what you learned from the copy.  Might be a bit dark or something, I don’t know, but anyways, I like it for now.  And a few pelvis studies from a skeleton during my spare this morning at school.

Mini Sketchbook Dump

September 16, 2010

I now once again finally have a working scanner!  So here are a bunch of recent sketches.  They are done from a variety of different sources: imagination, Michelangelo, Kevin Chen, photos (check out and life.  Some I like a lot some I hate with a passion.  But anyway, here they are.  A good deal of them are done with pencil crayons; I recently started using them again and love their results for quick sketches.  It glides on the paper really nice and allows a quick broad stroke to throw down some basic values.

I have more to scan (although older worse sketches), and two lifedrawing sessions to photograph as they don’t fit on my scanner.  So expect more sometime soonish (takes forever to scan, resize, crop, fix brightness, and post here and on

Sargent Study

September 15, 2010

A little copy done in an hour.

Finished Entry

September 11, 2010

So the deadline for The Last Teen Standing is today…here is the final.  Not completely happy, but it’s not too bad.  It was a hell of a tricky piece for me to do.  I did it all from imagination except for the hands and knee–I forced my brother to pose while I took pics of them.  Voting should start soon (tomorrow?) so I am waiting in anticipation of how it’ll all go down.  I hope to at least make it to the second round.
